Up for sale here is a shirt from the Aspesi label. Aspesi has a pretty long history in Italy, where they have been active since the 1960s. They are one of those labels that has made a name for themselves in creating unique and innovative fabrics, and were actually the brand responsible for making the down jacket more of an urban piece rather than something used for outdoor wear. They tend not to get a lot of attention outside of Europe and Japan, but again are one of those labels worth looking into.
This is a pretty classic western snap button shirt by Aspesi. It is pretty unique in that the western snap shirt is a classic Americana piece, perhaps more recently reinterpreted and updated by Japanese workwear labels. It is somewhat less common to find an Italian interpretation of this staple silhouette, but that is exactly what we have here. Probably the best part of this piece is the fabric. Material is an indigo dyed denim, pleasantly worn in, but at the same time has a very different feel compared to the Japanese and American versions. This version feels somehow lighter, with a very nice texture to it.
Fabric is 100% cotton in a medium-light weight. Features the classic western features, such as mother of pearl snap buttons throughout, shoulder yokes and dual snap button chest pockets. It is not a reinvention but a pretty straightforward interpretation with some subtle tweaks. Retail is in no way cheap if you can find it, but get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a large and fits true if somewhat relaxed. I measure the chest at 22”, shoulders at 18”, length at 30” and sleeves at 26.5” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Italy.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
