Up for sale here is a shirt from Band of Outsiders. This one comes from their original run, when they were designed by Scott Sternberg and made primarily in the US. Band of Outsiders had a lot of parallels to the Thom Browne label, where both aimed to interject a strong Americana aesthetic into their clothing, often referencing vintage ivy league style, while utilizing some super high quality materials and sharp tailoring. Sternberg unfortunately left Band of Outsiders in 2015, but their original run was definitely strong and will only become more highly sought after with the passage of time.
Band of Outsiders were probably best known for their shirting (at least in my opinion), where they made some really excellent tailored pieces. This shirt definitely fits that mold, coming in a summer weight 100% cotton seersucker fabric. Seersucker is essentially a textured cotton, often seen in a checked or plaid pattern and strongly associated with US ivy league style, especially from the 1950s and 60s era.
Aside from the excellent fabrics being sourced either in the US and Italy, typically from heritage mills, the other major appeal with Band of Outsiders was their highly tailored, slim aesthetic. They essentially took classic Americana, elevated the quality and slimmed the fit down to something more modern. Fit is very strong here, the sort of thing that can be worn tucked or untucked, dressed up or down. During this era Band of Outsiders consistently made some super high quality clothing, although retail prices also tended to reflect this and production runs could be pretty small. These pieces are now long gone, but get it here at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a 2 and fits a medium well. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, length at 27” / 68cm and sleeves at 24” / 62cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. It is also pretty unusual to find a vintage Band of Outsiders piece in such good shape these days, and you can get it here at a fraction of the retail price. Made in the USA.
