For sale here is a parka from the Battenwear label. Battenwear is similar to Engineered Garments and Monitaly in that they have a Japanese designer, are based in and produce exclusively in the United States. Also like Engineered Garments and Monitaly, Battenwear looks to vintage Americana for their design inspiration but adds their own unique take on top.
In this case we have a classic mountain parka silhouette, updated with the materials. I cannot seem to find the materials label, but I believe the exterior is a 60% polyester / 40% nylon blend. Looking at other iterations of this parka, I believe the lining is a 53% acrylic / 47% polyester fleece. With the combination of materials, this makes for a good cold weather jacket. It is not a down-level jacket, but the fleece is still quite warm and insulating. Silhouette is somewhat relaxed and very accommodating, easily allowing layering underneath should it be necessary.
All kinds of details are incorporated with this jacket as well. Hood is also lined in fleece, with snap buttons that can provide extra warmth on the neck. Front has a zip closure with a snap button storm flap on top of it. Snaps are all custom with an image of the Battenwear logo. Front has an array of pockets, including two side pockets with both top and side entry opening into different sections. Side pockets have expansion gussets allowing a pretty substantial amount of storage. There are also two different types of chest pockets, as well as an additional pocket on the back and even more pockets on the interior. You should be well covered for your storage needs with this jacket. The main zip features a large fabric pull, while the hood and waist has adjusters with leather pulls.
This is one of those pieces that is very well considered from all angles, is highly functional, and should cover you well throughout a variety of different weather conditions. This particular model is no longer being produced, but retail was about $600. Get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a small and intentionally fits a bit loose where this could also work for a medium. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 18”, length at 28” and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, generally good shape. There are a few subtle pen marks on the left sleeve (pictured). Otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in the USA.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $32.
