Up for sale here is a pretty unusual piece from the Burgus Plus label, the house label of the Hinoya shop out of Ueno, Tokyo. Hinoya is well known as being one of the go-to places for denim in Tokyo. They stock many of the heavy hitters, and Burgus Plus themselves have collaborated with some of the big names like Warehouse and Oni among others. The Burgus Plus line skews pretty strongly to the denim and workwear side of things, although they do produce a nice full range of clothing as well. Their pieces are actually pretty substantial and very well-made, easily rivaling the big names out there.
This is Burgus’ take on the classic cardigan. Fabric is 100% cotton, coming in a pretty heavy, thick knit. This is a thicker knit than you normally encounter, ideal for layering and use as a mid layer in the colder weather. Color is pretty unusual, where there is a random black and white knit throughout. Design references 1950s-60s classic Americana, particularly with the incorporation of side pockets, although the fit is a bit relaxed to ensure maximum comfort. Quality vegetable ivory buttons are used throughout, while the interior has some nicely contrasting green chain stitching.
As always with Burgus Plus, these pieces were produced in small quantities and were very difficult to track down outside of Japan. Retail was about $200 in Japan but get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a large and fits true. I measure the chest at 22” / 56cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 26.5” / 67cm and sleeves at 24” / 60cm from the shoulder. The sweater comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $26.
