Up for sale here is a piece you don’t by often, or really pretty much at all outside of Japan actually. This is a pair of pants from the Burgus Plus label, the house label of the Hinoya shop out of Ueno, Tokyo. Hinoya is well known as being one of the go-to places for denim in Tokyo. They stock many of the heavy hitters, and Burgus Plus have collaborated with some of the big names like Warehouse and Oni among others. The Burgus Plus line skews pretty strongly to the denim and workwear side of things, although they do produce a nice full range of clothing as well. Their pieces are actually pretty substantial and very well-made, easily rivaling the big names out there. Burgus is one of my favorite labels going right now actually, still largely under the radar, but easily putting out some top quality stuff.
So here we have the Burgus Plus version of the classic chinos. They call this model the “high quality modern chino”. Retail is about $150, not especially cheap but a bit better than what some of the big boys charge. As the name implies though, this is definitely a high quality pair of pants, easily rivaling any of the heavy hitters out there. I’ve handled khakis from most of the Japanese workwear brands, and the quality here matches any of them. It’s the sort of piece that will age very well, perfect for the warmer seasons or if you want to mix things up with the denim. Fit is also a bit more slim compared to some of the more “classic” labels like the Real McCoys or Buzz Rickson, so I think they’re going for a somewhat more modern look, while at the same time staying informed by the vintage inspiration.
Details here include a zip fly, white cotton canvas waistband and pockets, diagonal side pockets with horizontal rear pockets, woven rear label, and very high quality construction and stitching throughout. Like the best workwear, these are built tough and made to take a beating.
Size is labeled a 34 and fits true. I measure the waist at 34”, inseam at 30”, rise at 10” and opening at the bottom of the leg at 8.5”. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
