Chamula Monitaly yuketen hand woven merino cardigan, made in Mexico, S (fits M)

$79.99 Sold out

Up for sale here is a hand woven sweater from the Chamula label. Chamula is run by the Meg Company, the same people that produce the Monitaly and Yuketen labels, and overseen by Yuki Matsuda. Where Monitaly and Yuketen are almost entirely made in the US, Chamula is exclusively produced in Mexico. They specialize in hand-made garments, particularly hand-knit sweaters and leather shoes. Aside from being entirely hand made, Chamula also incorporates a lot of traditional Mexican motifs into their designs.

This is Chamula’s “fair isle zipper cardigan”. It is a classic zip style knit done in 100% merino wool. Chamula reportedly only uses wool from sheep grazing in the Mexican mountains, hand-spinning merino yarns and hand dyeing them. Chamula knitwear is just about as close as you can get to a fully handmade garment.

Being merino wool, the fabric is nicely insulating and in no way itchy. A quality wool is naturally heat regulating, providing more insulation in colder weather and becoming more breathable in warmer weather. This is just about some of the best quality you can get, making this sweater a very good cold weather piece. Details include a mix of green, blue and white threads used throughout, zipper hand-sewn on, cowl neck, and two pockets included on the front.

Chamula produces some truly excellent quality pieces, always in limited quantities and with limited availability. Still, they are well worth checking out if you haven’t already. These pieces retail at $700 and are well worth it for a fully hand made garment, but get it here at the cheapest price around.

Size is labeled a small, fitting more like a medium in my opinion. I measure the chest at 21” / 54cm and length at 25” / 64cm. Shoulders are raglan which makes exact measurements difficult, but I measure the shoulders at approx. 17” / 43cm and sleeves at approx. 23” / 59cm. The sweater comes in lightly used, very good shape. There is a bit of piling but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Mexico.

Shipping from Japan to everywhere will be $30 (this is a heavy weight piece).
