Up for sale here is a chore coat from French heritage label Chevre. As noted on the tag, this jacket is done in collaboration with the Beams select shop in Japan and was only available directly from Beams. Chevre is one of the few remaining French workwear labels that manufactures exclusively in France. Many labels increasingly send their manufacturing offshore, but Chevre (along with Laboureur and to some extent Vetra) keep things entirely in France.
What we have here is Chevre’s take on the classic chore coat. The chore coat is a French workwear staple, coming in many different shapes, colors and designs over the years. It is both utilitarian in design and at the same time highly fashionable. This version comes in a very unique turquoise blue colorway, highlighted with white buttons throughout. This color is the unique part of the Beams collaboration, where to my knowledge you cannot get it elsewhere.
Material is a 65% polyester, 35% cotton twill. It is a classic workwear fabric, robust and made to take a beating. Front has a four button closure in white, with two side pockets and one chest pocket. Interior also has a chest pocket, where the interior chest pocket is reinforced with two silver rivets. Those rivets are visible on the exterior of the jacket as well, as are the rivets used to reinforce the cuffs. Chest features a logo tag, while the neck tag notes the Beams collaboration and has a long explanation in French.
In all this is a classic French design, one that has withstood the test of time. This jacket comes in a pretty unusual color and is the sort of thing that will only get better with age. Get it here at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a 48 and fits a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 17”, length at 29” and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in France.
