Up for sale here is a shirt from Comme des Garcons, this one through their Good Design Shop imprint. Good Design Shop is one of the large number of brands falling under the Comme des Garcons umbrella, which also include Homme, Homme Plus, Play, Shirt, Junya Watanabe, Fumito Ganryu, and many others. From what I understand, Good Design Shop items are only available from the Good Design Shop, located on Omotesando in Tokyo, with additional limited availability online.

Good Design Shop pieces tend to go for simplicity over complication, although the usual high quality standards and interesting design you would expect from Comme des Garcons are still very much present. This is CDG’s taken on the classic striped shirt, given a couple of twists. Main body of the shirt is a 100% cotton fabric in a woven black and white stripe pattern. The main twist comes on the front, where there is a red and white stripe motif sewn on. The red and white fabric is the same weight as the rest of the shirt, and is sewn in patchwork style. That is, that additional fabric is now simply sewn on top of the rest of the shirt. Rather, The front part of the shirt has been removed and the red and white striped portion sewn in. This is a more complicated and time consuming process, but also has a very nice visual appeal to it. It is finished off with a three quarter sleeve detail and unique Good Design Shop neck tag.

Comme des Garcons pieces are always pretty difficult to come across, as they manufacture in limited quantities and often have limited distribution. This is very much the case for the Good Design Shop line, where they are one of the harder lines to track down and not sold outside of Japan. Get a rare piece here at a fraction of the retail price.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit slim. I measure the chest at 19”/49cm, shoulders at 18”/46cm, length at 27”/68.5” and sleeves at 17”/43cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
