For sale here is a classic solid long sleeved tee from the Flat Head. The Flat Head are one of the perhaps better known Japanese “repro” brands out there. That is, they specialize in reproductions of classic American vintage and workwear. But like the best of the repro labels, they add quite a bit. While the designs may be timeless, the detailing and quality are in another class. That’s where the Flat Head excels.
It’s hard to find a design more ubiquitous than this, although as usual the Flat Head definitely add their own signature to it. This is a solid shirt, no prints or anything like that here. Material is a heavy weight cotton. Not quite Iron Heart levels of heavy, but still a fair amount heavier than your standard cotton tee, making this an ideal layering piece. One of the nice things here is that you can easily layer under or over the tee and it would look good either way.
The shirt has loopwheeled construction. That is, fit is tubular with no side seams. Construction of loopwheeled shirts like this is actually pretty difficult, as it is an old technology with only a very limited number of loopwheeler machines left in working order. Of course, some of these are still active in Japan and labels like the Flat Head pride themselves on these sorts of innocuous details. The big advantage to loopwheeled construction is that the shirt is stronger overall and ensures a better fit. There is no need to worry about any twisting or seam unraveling.
What you get here is a classic piece, in a substantial weight with the quality and level of detail you would expect from the Flat Head. Other brands certainly produce similar shirts, although you’d be hard pressed to find a better iteration of it than what you see here. Like many of these kinds of Japanese labels, the Flat Head produces in limited quantities, with very limited availability especially outside of Japan. These kinds of classic, simple shirts always sell out very quickly. Get it here at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a 40, fitting a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 20.5”, shoulders at 19”, length at 26” and sleeves at 24.5” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape. There is maybe some minor fading, but no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
