Up for sale here is a crazy heavy deck coat from Iron Heart. In case you didn’t know, Iron Heart are one of those Japanese labels specializing in reproducing classic American work wear. They often take it a step further though, using much higher quality materials, often making their pieces considerably heavier than the competition. They build their clothing for work and riding, where Iron Heart want their clothes to stand up to the toughest possible conditions and keep going.
This is a rare iteration of Iron Heart’s signature N-1 deck jacket. A few years ago Iron Heart released this model: a one-off “deck half coat”. It keeps the same super heavy materials of their N-1, opting for a longer silhouette, a different pocket formation and a hood. This is a much better model in my opinion, more versatile than their N-1 jacket, great for riding around on your motorcycle, and an ideal companion for the cold weather. These pieces are built super tough, made to last, and will only get better as the fabric continues to get worn in.
Exterior is a woven cotton whipcord, the body is lined in a long pile 80% wool / 20% alpaca fabric, along with an additional interlining for increased wind resistance. It’s not a down piece, but at the same time this is still a very warm jacket. Details include a large double zip down the front, a buttoned storm flap over the zip to keep the wind out, a very warm lined hood, drawstrings on the hood with leather pulls, and storm cuffs also well suited to keep out the cold. Current iterations of Iron Heart’s N-1 retail at $790. This version cost a bit more at retail, but get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 22” / 57cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 29” / 74cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24.5” / 62cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in used but very good shape. There is some slight staining on the under arms (pictured) but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $45 given the weight of the piece.
