Up for sale here is a coat by Jil Sander. The Jil Sander label is well known for their super high quality production, top-notch tailoring and minimalist aesthetic. The label is a contemporary of designers like Helmut Lang and Raf Simons (who actually was head designer for Jil Sander at one point), although it is still going strong and remains as exclusive and extremely expensive at retail as it has always been.

This coat is a good illustration of the Jil Sander aesthetic. Material is a medium weight knit in a luxe 70% wool, 30% camel hair blend. Camel hair is a high quality, expensive fiber. Aside from the fact that most camel hair is sustainably harvested, it’s considered an ideal outerwear fabric because it is extremely durable and resilient, highly water and wind resistant, and naturally acts to insulate either cold or hot air depending on the occasion. The blend with wool keeps it soft and gives it a very nice drape. Fabric is seriously excellent. It has a very soft hand feel, not itchy at all and with a lovely texture.

Detailing is minimalist yet at the same time extremely modern, form fitting and unique in its approach. Rather than adding elements, classic Jil was all about subtracting them, boiling a garment down to its bare necessities and then making the absolute highest quality version of that garment possible. The main detail is in the drape, where it fits perfectly as an overcoat. As noted on the tag, this is a tailor made garment, very sophisticated in its fit and execution. It is finished off with a three button closure made out of genuine horn, a full lining in curpo, and two zipped, semi-hidden pockets on the interior.

As you can hopefully tell, Jil Sander spares no expense in tailoring and presenting a beautiful, complete package. At the same time, retail is ridiculously high. These coats retailed well over $1,000 at retail. This particular model is now long gone, but get it here at the cheapest price around.

Size is labeled a 48 fitting a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 22”, shoulders at 19”, length at 41” and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The coat comes in lightly used, good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Italy.
