John Undercover by Jun Takahashi 2014aw pea coat, size 3 (M)

$99.99

Up for sale here is a pea coat from John Undercover. John Undercover, in case you didn’t already know, is a sub-line of Jun Takahashi’s Undercover label. It, along with the ladies’ Sue Undercover label, are sort of between the mainline collection and their “basics” line. Designs certainly are not basic and quality is in no way sacrificed, although some of the detailing may not be quite as crazy as the UC mainline. I would say the line is comparable to Julius MA and Julius: that is, maybe somewhat simplified design but in no way cheap or compromised.

This jacket is from the fall-winter 2014 collection. Silhouette is based on the traditional naval pea coat, although very much updated with the Undercover aesthetic. Most seams here are raw, although reinforced to allow just a nice bit of fraying. Material is a fairly heavy 90% wool / 10% nylon blend, done in dark gray. Lots of detailing here is incorporated as you might expect, where the traditional vertical pockets and six button front are maintained, but then a bunch of extra pockets and zips are added on top of it. There is a set of zippered side pockets with punk-style pulls, with another set of side pockets on top of that. The vertical pockets are lined in fleece, which is very cozy for the hands and makes for a nice touch. In all, there is a total of six front pockets making for plenty of storage room here. In addition to the front button closure there is also a large zip, allowing a lot of variety in the way you can wear the jacket. That is, all buttons no zip, buttons and zip, just the zip, etc. Zip goes pretty high up as well, allowing you to easily turn the collar up if you so choose. The rear of the collar also has a contrasting blue accent just for fun. Cuffs are also zipped, allowing for some flexibility in fit there. Jacket is fully lined in cupro. Silhouette is slim in the chest and arms, as is typical of Undercover. This is a classic coat look, very well tailored. Undercover’s tailoring is actually highly underrated in my opinion.

As you have hopefully see here, a lot of detail went into this jacket, as is typical for Undercover. The JUC label has been flying under the radar a bit outside of Japan, so get a really nice piece here while you can, and at an affordable price. Undercover are rarely ones to repeat themselves, and this design is now long gone too. Retail was about $800 in Japan. For some reason size 3’s in particular for this jacket were quite rare, so get it here while you can.

Size is labeled a 3 and fits like a medium. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 18”, length at 30” and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains, or any obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $36.
