Striped shirt from Junya Watanabe for Comme Des Garcons here. This is from 2016 as you can see on the tag, although I am not sure if it is from the fall-winter or spring-summer collection. It is a medium weight shirt, actually a 95% cotton, 5% cashmere blend. The cashmere gives the fabric that extra soft feeling and adds a little bit of warmth to it. Season doesn’t really matter, as this kind of thing is versatile enough to last you most of the year.
So what you’ve got here is a very nice quality knit cotton fabric done in a long sleeve t-shirt silhouette, although the bottom is changed up just a little bit. Hem has a slight curve to it, is reinforced on the interior, and there are additional side reinforcements in a white cotton canvas. In all, this shirt seems to be referencing classic Saint James Breton striped shirts, but with that little twist the Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe are known to incorporate.
Junya Watanabe, like the Comme Des Garcons main line, retails at ridiculous prices even in Japan. These shirts were easily $300 outside of Japan. Here’s a chance at a much better price for what is now a very rare piece.
Size is labeled a small and fits true. I measure the chest at 19”, shoulders at 16”, and length at 26” and sleeves at 25”. The shirt comes lightly used, very good shape. The details on the white neck tag have washed away, but there are no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear on the shirt itself. Made in Japan.
