Up for sale here is a cotton/nylon coverall from the Momotaro label. Momotaro is perhaps best known for their denim manufacturing. They’re one of those willfully small Japanese labels that set up shop in Okayama, using old school looms and some very skilled artisans who’ve been making jeans for decades. Just as Momotaro jeans are some of the best out there, you can bet that their other products are of equally high quality.
In fact, Momotaro’s range extends pretty far beyond just jeans. They make some really nice tees, work shirts and outerwear as well. While many of their products are denim, they also branch out into other textiles. However, quality is always paramount with Momotaro. You can be sure that you’re getting a high quality garment, very well constructed and built to last when you see their name. Given what they do I am a bit surprised they haven’t caught on more outside of Japan, but that’s no knock on their products in any way.
So what we have here Momotaro’s take on the classic coverall. As always, Momotaro are very particular about the quality of materials used, and this piece definitely lives up to their high standards. Fabric is a 60% cotton, 40% nylon blend in a medium-light weight. The nylon makes the material quite a bit more robust, where it is more water resistant and resistant to abrasion compared to a cotton fabric.
Momotaro also excel in interesting details. Buttons are all metal, with two large patch pockets that are partially lined. Also features asymmetric chest pockets, with the right pocket buttoned with a flap and the left pocket with a pen slot. Interior has a pocket and cuffs are buttoned. My favorite detail here is with the stitching. There is chunky chain stitch construction used throughout, and you can see the hand detailing on the some of the stitch lines, especially on the chest pockets. Momotaro always builds their pieces tough and with aging in mind. This will only get better with time.
Size is labeled a 40 and fits like a standard medium. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 18”, length at 28” and sleeves at 25” from the shoulders. The jacket comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
