Up for sale here is a t-shirt from the Monitaly label, designed by Yuki Matsuda who also runs the Yuketen brand. Where Yuketen is 100% made in the USA and based on traditional footwear silhouettes, Monitaly follows the same basic ethos with their clothing. Much like Engineered Garments and the Nepenthes family in Japan, Monitaly produces exclusively in the US, usually incorporating vintage and workwear elements into their designs. This is in no way a repro label though, their designs are totally new and unique.
This is Monitaly’s take on the classic short sleeve tee, done with some tweaks. Material is 100% cotton in a standard t-shirt weight. Like a lot of Monitaly, fit is on the relaxed side where this can easily work for a larger size as well. The body of the shirt is a solid gray, with raw seams on the neck, arms and bottom. The big twist is the incorporation of paint splatter throughout the shirt, making for a pretty nice contrast to the darker color of the body.
Even though they’re made in the US, Monitaly can still be pretty hard to come by outside of Japan. Their quality is typically excellent, and this piece definitely does not disappoint. Get it here at a fraction of the original cost as well.
Size is labeled a medium and fits loose. I measure the chest at 22” / 57cm, shoulders at 19” / 49cm, and length at 27” / 69cm from the base of the neck. The shirt comes in lightly used, good shape overall. There is a bit of wear on the neck but otherwise no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear. Made in the USA.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
