Up for sale here is a shirt from the Or Slow label, one of the perhaps smaller “American casual” labels going in Japan, but one that has managed to attract a pretty strong cult following. Or Slow mainly draws their inspiration from vintage military and work wear, where they often re-work and reinterpret classic pieces, adding their own unique stamp and aesthetic.
In this case we have Or Slow’s take on the classic plaid shirt. Silhouette follows vintage plaid button downs pretty closely, with the main difference coming in the quality of the fabric. As you can hopefully see on the detailed pics, this is a premium quality knit, the sort of thing where you can see the individual threads woven together. This kind of highly textured knit is the sort of thing these Japanese labels specialize in, very likely done on vintage shuttle looms. You will be hard-pressed to find this kind of fabric elsewhere.
As noted, the cut of the shirt is pretty classic, where Or Slow is not looking to reinvent the wheel here or anything like that. The emphasis is pretty squarely on the fabrics, while the silhouette is cut slim. Extraneous details are kept to a minimum here, although there are two buttoned chest pockets and complimentary black buttons throughout.
Size is labeled a 2 and fits a small well. I measure the chest at 18.5” / 47cm, shoulders at 16” / 41cm, length at 27” / 68cm, and sleeves at 23” / 58cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
