Up for sale here is a reimagined military style piece from Japanese label Sage de Cret. Sage de Cret have been around since 2001, although they are one of those more cultish labels that produces in small quantities and has limited international distribution. With Sage de Cret the emphasis is on reimagining classic military wear. Think of a lot of khakis, military greens and military silhouettes and you get the general idea, although these are not straight reproductions. Quality is stepped up considerably, where they are fond of garment dyeing their clothing – that is, dyeing the sewn garment rather than the fabric before sewing the clothing together. Garment dyeing is a more time consuming and expensive process, but the depth of color and variation make the results a lot more interesting. Sage de Cret also like to play with the silhouettes of military styles, going for slimmed down and sometimes more relaxed fits.
This jacket is Sage de Cret’s interpretation of the military over shirt. It has been garment dyed and the silhouette has been slimmed down some for a sharper fit. Fabric is a 58% cotton / 42% linen blend, putting this on the lighter side of the scale. Color is a nicely uneven shade of black. Details include a standing collar detail with some darting on the chest, asymmetric chest pockets and an interior waistline cinch. Fit is somewhere between a shirt and a light jacket, where you can layer under and over according the climate and your preference.
In all, this is a nice take on vintage classic. If you are looking for something that is a bit subtle in its appeal yet still interesting this is a good piece for you. Retail was about $300 in Japan and more abroad if you could find it. Get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit slim. I measure the chest at 20” / 50cm, shoulders at 17” / 43cm, length at 26” / 67cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 23” / 59cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, teras or stains. Made in Japan.
