Up for sale here is a shirt from Japanese label Sassafras. Active since 2004, Sassafras fills a pretty unique niche in that they design clothes ostensibly for gardening. That is, they make very high quality, functional daily wear inspired by vintage outdoor clothing. They are one of those labels that has developed a pretty strong cult following in Japan, but has very little publicity and next to no distribution outside of Japan.
This is a shirt done through Sassafras’ particular aesthetic. Fabric is 100% cotton, done in a medium weight plaid flannel. This is a high quality knit, the sort of thing where you can see the individual threads woven together on close inspection. Silhouette is probably the main draw here, where this may first look like a standard plaid shirt but in addition to the chest pockets there are two side pockets also incorporated. Sassafras is all about adding in functional details, and it is pretty rare to find these kinds of pockets added onto a shirt. This will work for your gardening, but can just as easily work for regular daily use.
Size is labeled a small and fits relaxed like a lot of Sassafras pieces. It can easily work for a standard medium. I measure the chest at 23” / 58cm, shoulders at 17” / 43cm, length at 29” / 74cm and sleeves at 23” / 59cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
