For sale here is a shirt from Japanese manufacturer Shuttle Notes. The label is interesting in that they’re actually a part of a Japanese textile mill (Ueyama) – they supply fabrics to a number of other Japanese labels, but they also started their own line with Shuttle Notes fairly recently. They’re probably best known for their shirting (and rightfully so), where they take pretty familiar silhouettes and do some really crazy stuff with their textiles. Being their own mill, they can produce some fabrics that very few other labels are able to even come close to.
As you might expect the fabric on this shirt is excellent. The main material is a light weight 64% cotton, 36% tencel blend in blue. Fabric is indigo dyed, in an ideal summer weight and perfect for the warmer weather. Construction is no slouch either, where the material has a pleasantly uneven feel, very likely the product of being woven on vintage shuttle looms (as the label’s name implies). Chain stitch construction is used throughout. This is one of those pieces that really pulls all of the stops in terms of construction. Not only is the fabric unique, but it is built very tough on top of it.
Details include some really cool art deco style metal buttons throughout, some white cotton/denim piping on the interior, as well as vintage style union made tag on the interior. There are also side gussets with chain stitch runoff. Shuttle notes is pretty hard to come by outside of Japan. Retail is typically around $200 outside of Japan if you can find them, although this model is now long gone.
Size is labeled a medium and fits slim, more like a standard small. I measure the chest at 18” / 47cm, shoulders at 16” / 41cm, length at 28” / 72cm, and sleeves at 24” / 61cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible fading of the material. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
