Shuttle Notes master cloth cotton/nylon windbreaker, made in Japan, size 2 (fits L)

$39.99

For sale here is a really nice jacket from Japanese manufacturer Shuttle Notes. The label is interesting in that they’re actually a part of a Japanese textile mill (Ueyama) – they supply fabrics to a number of other Japanese labels, but they also started their own line with Shuttle Notes fairly recently. Emphasis is rightly on unique fabrics, where they also tend to draw on the same vintage Americana that a lot of other Japanese look to. Shuttle Notes’ shirting probably gets the most attention, but they have a smaller range of outerwear that is equally interesting, if not even more so.

This jacket is a very rare piece from Shuttle Notes, in that they’re primarily known for their button down shirts. They have also branched out into knit wear and some outerwear, but it is much harder to come by. All Shuttle Notes pieces come in some very unique textiles, and this jacket is definitely no exception. Material here is a 70% cotton, 30% nylon blend, done in an off-white color. The fabric such that it is both light weight and water repellant, making it a good outer layer piece (although you can also layer under it pretty easily). I believe this is also one of those pieces that you can expect to age quite well, where not only is it built real tough and made to last, but the white material will intentionally show you a bit of age as it is worn.

Pattern wise there’s quite a bit more happening here as well. Front has a zip closure along with a snap button storm flap. There is a removable hood, two chest pockets, and two side pockets with flap covers. Hood has a snap component for the neck, providing extra warmth and protection, along with a drawstring to adjust the hood. There is also a drawstring on the waist, and button adjusting cuffs. Design evokes the classic mountain jacket to me, although Shuttle Notes calls this a “field jacket”. Either way, this is intended to be one of those highly versatile pieces that goes with pretty much anything, that you can quickly throw on and be on your way with.

These jackets were produced in very limited quantities, even more limited than their shirts, and are now completely sold out. Shuttle Notes has pretty limited distribution outside of Japan as well, with only a handful of distributors abroad and very expensive retail prices. Get a rare piece here at a very reasonable price.

Size is labeled a 2 and fits like a standard large in my opinion. I measure the chest at 23”, shoulders at 20”, length at 27” from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, generally good shape. There is some wear on the back of the left sleeve, but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
