For sale here is a rare snap button shirt by the Skull Jeans label. Skull Jeans, otherwise known as Skull Jeans by an Alchemist, were a Japanese “American casual” label – the sort of brand like the Flat Head or Full Count known for releasing their own interpretations of classic Americana, often significantly elevated in terms of fabric and quality. They are primarily known for their jeans, although they also produced a full line of clothing for a time. From what I can gather, Skull started around 1997, ceasing operations sometime around 2010 or so, making their clothing pretty hard to come across these days.
This is a rare button down shirt from Skull jeans, modeled after the classic snap button western. What is most apparent and what sets this shirt apart from the pack is the quality of the fabric. Material is heavier than your standard western, pushing this more into Iron Heart territory. Fabric is 100% cotton done in a high quality weave, the sort of thing where you can see the individual threads woven together on close inspection. Mother of pearl snap buttons are used throughout, also pretty heavy, as is some heavy weight chain stitching. The stitching is another interesting point, where the color and weight is basically something you would see used for jeans rather than shirting, but it also makes for a well-built, very tough shirt.
Other details include dual chest pockets, both with snap closure, side gussets, and woven tags on the neck and the left sleeve. Skull Jeans is one of those cult labels that was difficult to come across even when they were actively in production, and have only become harder to track down over time. Get yourself a rare shirt in excellent shape and at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a 38/medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 17.5” and length at 25” in front and 26” in back (meant to be worn untucked). The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
