Stephan Schneider cotton/linen jacket, made in Belgium, size 4 (M)

$59.99

For sale here is a jacket by Stephan Schneider. Stephan Schneider is one of the perhaps lesser-known Belgian designers. Although actually German, he graduated from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts and remains based in Antwerp. Like many of his contemporaries like Ann Demeulemeester, Margiela and Dries Van Noten, Schneider produces at some of the highest levels of quality available. His label is also distinct in that he designs all of his own textiles. This creates an additional layer of design that is both more time consuming and expensive, but his designs are not available anywhere else.

In this case we have a summer weight overcoat. Fabric is an 80% cotton, 20% linen blend and is unlined. The material is what probably garners the most attention here, where it is a highly textured knit, surprisingly thick actually, kind of spongy for lack of a better word. This is still a lighter weight fall-spring-summer material, but it has a sort of futuristic look and feel to it.

Design is also evocative of some kind retro-futuristic sci-fi look, echoing the minimalistic fits of vintage Jil Sander or Helmut Lang. There is a four button closure and side pockets hidden in the seams. Arms slim down at the cuffs, where you can wear the cuffs unbuttoned if you would like a looser fit. There is also a drawstring around the rear waist which both breaks up the silhouette and can be adjusted for a more fitted look if you like.

Stephan Schneider is one of those cult labels that produces limited quantities of pretty much everything and can be pretty hard to track down. Retail prices are uniformly expensive, but quality is excellent and almost all of their pieces are manufactured in Belgium.

Size is labeled a 4, equivalent to a standard medium. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 17”, length at 33”, and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Belgium.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
