For sale here is a button down shirt from the Studio d’Artisan label. SDA is in fact one of the original denim manufacturers in Japan, going strong since 1979. They have a long and storied history but their aesthetic has been pretty consistent all along, where they were one of the originators of the “American casual” look in Japan-- clothing that borrows heavily from vintage American work and sportswear, but at the same time isn’t an exact reproduction.
This is SDA’s take on the classic button down shirt, but with a few twists. Material is a double layered cotton gauze fabric. Exterior is a knit check pattern, the sort of thing where on close inspection you can see the individual threads making up the weave. Interior is a solid blue in the same style of weave. Individually each layer of fabric is light in weight, what is often called a cotton gauze. With the two layers together the shirt becomes more of a standard weight, neither too light nor too heavy.
The other big twist comes in the sleeves, which are three quarters in length and buttoned on the cuffs. Shell buttons are used throughout, with some nice stitching on the interior neckline and Studio d’Artisan’s vintage inspired union made tag on the interior. Like most SDA, these are seasonally produced pieces, always done in limited quantities and very hard to get especially outside of Japan. This particular model is now long gone as well.
Size is labeled large, although fits more like a standard medium in my opinion. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 18”, length at 27” in front and 28” in back, both from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 17” from the shoulder. The shirt comes lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
