For sale here is a shirt from the Soloist label. The Soloist is designed by Takahiro Miyashita, arguably most famous for his time at the Number Nine label. Miyashita’s time with Number Nine went through 2009, after which he started the Soloist. The Soloist’s main design inspiration basically started up where Number Nine left off, bringing in an intricate patchwork style aesthetic, using high quality materials and some of the most detailed patterning out there. Much like Number Nine, Soloist has a very strong musical inspiration, although it is perhaps a bit less up front compared to Number Nine.
So basically what you can expect from the Soloist is some very high quality pieces, intricate tailoring, and very much a singular aesthetic. Nobody designs clothes quite like Miyashita, and the Soloist has come out with some pretty amazing stuff over the years.
In this case we have a long sleeved t-shirt style silhouette, tweaked a bit with the detailing. Body is black and done in a standard shirt weight 100% cotton material. Details include white tag stitching visible on the back, a center seam and crewneck style detail. The center seam and two side seams are also reinforced on the interior in a black cotton, creating a nice effect and also adding more shape.
As you can hopefully see, a considerable amount of effort goes into Soloist pieces. They don’t come cheap at retail of course, with these pieces retailing at about $250 outside of Japan if you can find them. Much like Number Nine, the Soloist has extremely limited distribution and are only stocked by a handful of retailers both in and outside of Japan.
Size is labeled a 44 and fits like a small or perhaps a slim medium. I measure the chest at 19” / 49cm, shoulders at 17” / 44.5cm, length at 25” / 63cm, and sleeves at 24” / 62cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.
