For sale here is a jacket from the Beams Plus, one of a number of labels run by the Beams company. Beams is actually a “select” boutique style shop that operates out of Japan that initially sold other designer’s pieces, although in recent years it has launched a variety of its own labels. All Beams brands are sold exclusively through their own shops in Japan, although with the Beams Plus label in particular they’ve been getting some distribution abroad in other stores.
The Beams Plus label tends to skew pretty strongly toward vintage work and military wear for its inspiration, although they do tend to incorporate their own little details as well. Designs go for the subtle and more sophisticated, rather than loud branding or prints. You won’t find any big labels or that sort of thing with Beams Plus. Rather, the emphasis is very much on quality materials and craftsmanship.
This is a pretty unique piece from Beams Plus in that it combines a vintage-inspired silhouette with a much more modern fabric and execution. Silhouette seems to be based on the classic military overshirt, the M-43 being a good example with a flat hem and two chest pockets. Beams Plus have then moved in the complete opposite direction toward the modern with a very unique nylon fabric. The nylon here is semi translucent/iridescent in that you can sort of see what is underneath. It is fairly light in weight and breathable, making for a good warm weather shell. It will help to keep out the wind and rain and is easily packable.
Details include snap buttons used throughout, two chest pockets with snap buttons, and additional pocket on the left arm, and a drawstring at the bottom to adjust the fit. These pieces were of course produced in limited quantities with limited availability even in Japan. Retail was about $200. Get it here in excellent shape at a much more reasonable price.
Size is labeled a small and fits relaxed, more like a medium. I measure the chest at 21.5” / 55cm, shoulders at 18” / 45cm, length at 27” / 68cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” / 62cm. Note the shoulders are raglan, making the shoulder and sleeve measurements estimates rather than being exact. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains.
