Up for sale here is a classic piece from Comme des Garcons, this one from their Homme line. Comme des Garcons is one of the original and most influential Japanese avant-garde labels, dating back to the 1970s. At this point they have established a universe of labels, including Homme Plus, Junya Watanabe, Play, Evergreen, Black, Shirt, and quite a few more. Each has their own particular emphasis, where the Homme line is also designed by Junya Watanabe and tends to take a similar patchwork approach to their designs.
This is CDG’s take on the classic button down shirt, filtered through their very unique aesthetic. Material is 100% cotton, coming in a standard shirt weight and ideal for year-round wear. The main material is a 100% cotton knit in gray. As always, CDG incorporates some subtle tweaks here as well. For one, the interior neckline and cuffs use a contrasting polka dot fabric. If you turn the cuffs up this polka dot fabric is visible and makes for a nice contrast. The other tweak is with the stitching, where the shirt is constructed using substantial white chainstitching throughout, including double and triple needle construction at some points. The stitching is more of a workwear hallmark but has been used in CDG’s more conceptual approach here.
This particular shirt comes from the 2011 collection and retailed for about $250 in Japan alone. Like most Comme des Garcons, availability outside of Japan was extremely limited and the retail price was almost double. This model is now completely sold out as well.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest 21” / 53cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 44cm, length at 28” / 71cm, and sleeves at 24.5” / 62cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape. There is a small abrasion in the fabric on the front left side, near the interior materials tag, but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
