Engineered Garments Andover jacket for sale here. Engineered Garments, designed by Daiki Suzuki and under the umbrella of Japanese company Nepenthes, manufactures their products exclusively in the United States and almost entirely in New York City. Part of their design ethos is utilize some of the high quality materials and services available in the city and keep their factories going. One of their other main ideals is to update classic workwear pieces with a more modern approach.

This is Engineered Garments’ “andover jacket”. It is one of their staple silhouettes that they release most seasons, although they always change the fabrics. This particular model is a somewhat earlier version with EG’s older neck tag. Fabric is 100% wool, lined in the body in 100% cotton and a 62% acetate / 38% rayon blend in the sleeves. Fabric makes this a good colder weather piece, ideal for layering as the weather demands. You can easily put a sweater under and a coat on top in dead of winter. Exterior has an intricate plaid weave. It is nicely textured and provides a nice accent compared to a solid color blazer.

Silhouette seems to be inspired by British casual wear and perhaps US ivy style as the name suggests. Front has three button closure, interior and exterior chest pockets, two side pockets and an additional ticket pocket above the right side pocket. You often see this sort of detail on British tailoring actually, and EG use it to good effect here. Rear has a center vent.

Another interesting point here is the fully made in USA construction. This is already rare enough on its own and something that sets EG apart from the pack, but it is especially unusual with this kind of woolen wear. You are a lot more likely to see these types of woven heavy wools with British manufacturing. EG do an excellent job here, however, nicely blurring the lines between US, British and Japanese design.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true. More recent EG pieces have a highly relaxed silhouette, but these earlier iterations have a more straightforward fit. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 18” / 47cm, length at 29” / 73cm in front and 28” / 70cm in back, and sleeves at 24” / 61cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in the USA.
