$159.99

For sale here is a winter weight coat from Engineered Garments. EG has established itself as a major American-based manufacturer of vintage-informed workwear. They have been around since 2004, producing consistently excellent and interesting collections for over 20 years now. They are unique in that they are an ongoing collaboration between the Japanese company Nepenthes and Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki, yet manufacture almost entirely in the US and New York City more specifically.

The EG ethos is all about fusing heritage design with something more unique and modern. This coat is an excellent example of the EG philosophy, where it is based on classic military jacket liners yet represents something entirely new and different. Like a liner jacket insulation is the name of the game here, where we have a long coat silhouette with a 65% polyester 35% cotton exterior and a 100% polyester shag interior. The interior is a faux fur and pretty thick, making this very insulating and an excellent coat for heat retention. With proper layering this should cover you in the harshest of situations.

Aside from the fabrics there are all kinds of interesting details incorporated. Hood is large and fully insulated in the same polyester, keeping your head and neck very warm. You can also remove the hood if you prefer. The coat uses snap buttons for closure on the exterior, and is also fully reversible. On the reverse it uses a series of rope ties. Both sides have large pockets ideal for storage, as well as slits that allow you to access the interior pockets without having to remove or open the coat. Cuffs are ribbed, and like classic military liners the under arms are removed for ventilation.

This is one of those signature EG pieces that is well considered from all angles. They have released a few iterations of this piece in different fabrics and with some tweaks to the design, although this model is now long gone. Get it here at a fraction of the retail price.

Size is labeled a medium and fits intentionally relaxed. You should be able to layer comfortably under the coat without any issues or restrictions of your movement. I measure the chest at 23”, shoulders at 22”, length at 36” and sleeves at 23.5” from the shoulder (note the dropped shoulder adds a good two to three inches to the sleeve measurement). The coat comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in USA.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $45 (this is a heavy coat).
