For sale here is a jacket the Japan Blue Jeans label. Japan Blue is one of the lines manufactured by Rampuya, the same company that does the Momotaro label. Both labels are very strongly jeans and indigo oriented, producing exclusively in the Kojima area of Japan, although the Momotaro label is probably more widely known and releases a fuller range. Japan Blue focuses pretty strongly on jeans and denim jackets, but the same high quality production standards are still very much there, as are the really detailed and unique fabrics.

This is Japan Blue’s take on the coach jacket, done with a pretty unique usage of indigo dyed denim. It is not so common to find a coach jacket in denim (they are usually done in nylon), but this is where Japan Blue likes to keep things interesting. Material is a fairly light weight denim, I would guess around 8-10oz, indigo dyed a deep shade of blue. Like any quality indigo the color should gradually fade and develop with wear. Watching the evolution is a part of the process with a good indigo piece.

Front features snap buttons and two side pockets. A Japan Blue logo is also embroidered on the front. Interior has Japan Blue’s newer label tag, as well as a selvedge detail going down the center back. Interestingly the selvedge line is actually asymmetric, where the left side is white with a red dash, while the right side has green, white and yellow lines. The jacket is finished with a drawstring along the bottom.

Japan Blue is one of those labels that does some really interesting, often experimental applications coupled with a strong foot in classic denim manufacturing. They can be somewhat difficult to track down outside of Japan, but get a nice piece here at the cheapest price around.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit relaxed. I measure the chest at 22” / 56cm, shoulders at 17” / 44cm, length at 28.5” / 72.5cm and sleeves at 24” / 62cm. The jacket comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or fading of the indigo. Made in Japan.
