For sale here is a t-shirt by Junya Watanabe, done as always as a part of the Comme des Garcons family. Like most of the other CDG lines, Junya takes an avant-garde approach to reinterpreting classic menswear. The Junya line differs somewhat in that the inspiration is typically vintage workwear, and it is often reinterpreted in a sort of patchwork manner. Designs are always clever and well thought-out, and quality is consistently extremely high.
This shirt comes from 2006. The design is fairly straightforward, but also very effective. You essentially have a classic striped crewneck tee. The twist primarily comes in the fabric, where you have a black base with a striped detail, but also yellow blocks of fabric along the chest, sides and across the shoulders on the back. The extra yellow panels adds a layer of texture to the fabric while also giving it more of that avant-garde feeling that Comme des Garcons and its labels are all about.
Like all CDG pieces, these shirts were produced in limited quantities and very difficult to get outside of Japan. Retail prices are always ridiculously expensive and this piece is now long gone. Get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a large and fits true. I measure the chest at 21” / 54cm, shoulders at 17” / 45cm and length at 25” / 64cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, good shape. There is just a bit of fading on the neck tag, but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
