Up for sale here is a very nice shirt from the Monitaly label, designed by Yuki Matsuda who also does the Yuketen brand. Where Yuketen is 100% made in the USA and based on traditional footwear silhouettes, Monitaly follows the same basic ethos with their clothing. Much like Engieered Garments and the Nepenthes family in Japan, Monitaly produces exclusively in the US, usually incorporating vintage and workwear elements into their designs. This is in no way a repro label though, their designs are totally new and unique.
So this is Monitaly’s take on the classic cotton crewneck shirt, done in their proprietary “vancloth” fabric. From what I gather, vancloth is supposed to mimic vintage military fabrics in that it is highly water repellent, similar to a ventile I suppose. It’s essentially a tightly woven cotton that naturally keeps out the wind and rain, yet remains a light weight material.
Design here is pretty unique to Monitaly. There is a faux henley neck detail on the front, as well as the incorporation of two large side pockets. Fit overall is oversized, meant to be relaxed and loose. Hem also goes fairly wide and an adjuster has been added to the hem where you can tighten it up if you like. Material is pretty light weight, making this a good warm weather piece and ideal for layering.
Even though they’re manufactured exclusively in Los Angeles, Monitaly has surprisingly small distribution in the US (and pretty much everywhere else for that matter). Retail on these shirts is about $285 in the US, and this model is now completely sold out.
Size is labeled a small, fitting large. This is one of Monitaly’s oversized pieces and could work well for most sizes. I measure the chest at 23” / 59cm, shoulders at 19” / 47cm, and length at 27” / 69cm. The shirt comes in used, generally good shape. There is some wear on the front by the right pocket area but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in USA.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
