For sale here is a vintage style cardigan from the Joe McCoy label, one of the sublines of the Real McCoys. Real McCoys (and Joe McCoy by extension) are one of those Japanese “repro” labels, taking traditional US work and military wear and updating the fit and the quality considerably. This is a big thing in Japan and something that has been gradually getting more exposure outside of Japan as well, particularly with brands like 45 rpm, Visvim and Kapital. The Real McCoys is all about incorporating the highest quality possible into their designs, bringing an obsessive level of detail to vintage Americana and typically creates better quality pieces than the originals that inspired them.
This is a more recent release from the McCoys spring-summer 2024 collection. Inspiration comes from classic ivy-style sweaters from the US in the 1950s and 60s. Material is 100% cotton in a highly textured knit. This is technically a spring-summer piece but in my opinion the weight is pretty substantial here and the sweater can work pretty much year-round. It features two side pockets along with six horn buttons for closure.
With the McCoys it is all about the details and materials. This is a classic design that maybe looks like a typical sweater on first glance, but the difference comes when you feel the fabric and try it on. All aspects are well considered here. It is one of those basics that can work with most things, is timeless in design, and is built tough and made to last. There is a reason the McCoys have the reputation that they do and it is easy to see with these kinds of pieces.
Size is labeled a 38 and fits a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 27” / 69cm and sleeves at 24” / 61cm. The sweater comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $26.
