Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme cotton/rayon striped shirt, size 3 (M)

$44.99

For sale here is a shirt from the Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme line, their top-end Paris runway collection. Along with Issey Miyake and Comme des Garcons, Yohji is often considered one of the main avant-garde Japanese designers. Each has their own forte: Comme des Garcons is often highly conceptual, making “ugly” clothes somehow work, Miyake tends to go for the technical side of things, developing unique fabrics and techniques. Yohji is more of a romantic, producing most things in black, usually in loose silhouettes. Designs are deceptively simplistic, where if you’re at all familiar with Yohji you know that there’s always more going on than meets the eye.

With Yohji, fabric and drape are all-important. All of his textiles are custom and they’re some of the best out there. Corners are never cut with any of Yohji’s labels, and with Pour Homme you can expect you’re getting the best of the best and something totally unique. Fit is also given the utmost care, where garments are intended to be loose fitting while at the same time flattering, leaving just the right amount to the imagination and likewise ensuring a high degree of comfort.

This is Yohji’s take on the classic striped tee. Based on the tag coding this is one of Yohji’s more recent collections, although I cannot date it. It is definitely after 2012 but I can’t confirm beyond that. Fabric is 50% cotton, 50% rayon with alternating black and white stripes. Cut is asymmetric, where the neckband and bottom are of varying lengths. Front also has a red block of color and rear has a blue color block. Yohji pieces are always given the utmost care, with all aspects of the design and quality well considered. This shirt is no exception. If you’re at all familiar with Yohji you know that while he has some of the highest quality standards out there, his clothes don’t come cheap. Retail on this shirt was around $250 in Japan and would have run you at least $300 or so abroad. Get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 3, fitting between a standard medium well in this case. I measure the chest at 20” / 52cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, and length at 27” / 69cm in the shorter section. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
