A pretty rare piece for sale here from one of Japan’s smaller vintage-inspired labels. Not only is there a pretty large range of labels in Japan that look to vintage Americana for their inspiration, but they often specialize even further than that. The Real McCoys, for example, have a number of sub lines that explore different branches of vintage clothing (Buco for bike wear, 8 Hour Union for work wear, Ball Park for sportswear, etc.), the Flat Head often go for 50s-era rock-n-roll, Buzz Rickson for military wear, and so on. Another facet of this movement is in looking at vintage outdoors wear, which is where Corona comes in. There are a few other labels that do something similar, perhaps most notably a label called Colimbo, in that they aim to create extremely functional outdoors wear, looking primarily at vintage pieces for inspiration.
As you might expect with outdoors-looking pieces, their jackets are often very strong and tend to be at the center the collections for labels like Corona. Still, they also make a full line, with the quality excellent all around and the attention to detail easily rivaling any of the bigger labels.
In this case we have Corona’s take on the button down plaid shirt. Silhouette is pretty classic here, with twists coming in the fabric and the detailing. Fabric is 100% cotton in a standard shirt weight, coming in a knit plaid pattern. There are actually two different plaid patterns used in the shirt which creates a nice contrast. More subtle details include genuine shell buttons throughout, side gussets with chainstitch runoff, and a reinforced button placket on the interior.
As always with these kinds of pieces, production is quite limited and these can be hard to get even in Japan. As far as I can tell, Corona do not currently have any distribution outside of Japan either, which is unfortunate since they make some really nice stuff.
Shirt is labeled a large and fits more like a standard medium in my opinion. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 17”, length at 27” and sleeves at 24.5” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
