Nonnative Japan ripstop camouflage shirt-jacket, size 2 (M)

$34.99

For sale here is a shirt-jacket from the Nonnative label. Nonnative are one of the more unique Japanese brands in that they don’t have a clear design inspiration. They’re sort of like Sophnet or Mister Hollywood in that sense, where seasonally they may have a unifying concept driving the collection, but they’re often more about making high quality, functional casualwear. For Nonnative, inspiration comes mainly from designer Takayuki Fujii’s own wardrobe and clothes that can be used for travel. Still, they’re consistently interesting and always creative in their approach to creating comfortable, well made and long lasting clothing. They’ve developed a pretty strong cult following as a result, and are getting increasing distribution outside of Japan.

With that said, what we have here is a pretty interesting piece. Design is somewhere between a shirt and a jacket – it has a general jacket silhouette, but comes in a light weight cotton and can easily double as an overshirt. Inspiration comes from military wear with the camo pattern, and fabric is done in a ripstop weave. That is, the grid pattern prevents the fabric from ripping if it gets snagged. This is often found in military wear, as ripstop helps maintain the resiliency of the garment. Fabric is 100% cotton and done in a fairly light weight. Other details include snap button closure throughout, darts on the arms, splits in the hem, and a chest pocket.

While Nonnative has been increasing its international presence, their full collections are still pretty hard to come by. Retail on these pieces is in the neighborhood of $300, but get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 2, equivalent to a medium. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 18” length at 27” in front and 29” in back, and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The piece comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $26.
