Stevenson Overall co. plaid button down shirt, size M

$39.99

Up for sale here is a plaid button down shirt from Stevenson Overall Co., another one of those Japanese “American causal” labels. Stevenson Overall gets their name from a 1930s-era clothing brand, and the label makes a number of nods to old-time clothes, taking elements from early functional clothing (including workwear, military and outdoor clothing) and mixes them with their own unique take. It’s a similar approach to what Mister Freedom does, although for Stevenson Overall it strikes me as more workwear-oriented, rather than the more military-inspired flavor Mister Freedom has.

Either way, these are produced to exacting specifications with excellent quality and attention to detail. Stevenson Overall, like many of the other Japanese American casual brands, is fairly rare. All the Japanese labels produce in very limited quantities, although Stevenson Overall is a bit smaller than some of them. They’ve got limited distribution in Japan, and only a handful of specialist shops tend to stock them abroad.

With all that said, what we have here is Stevenson’s take on the plaid shirt. It is made from a nice, somewhat unevenly textured woven cotton. This is not a print, as some cheaper brands do, but it is different colored threads actually woven together. Weight is on the heavier side in my opinion, where this is a good fall-winter-spring shirt. Buttons are quality, vintage style cat’s eye, and the shirt features two buttoned chest pockets, as well as a woven label. Retail on these shirts is around $220-$250 outside of Japan if you can find them. Get it here for much less.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 17.5”, length at 27.5” from the base of the neck and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in light used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
