Sugar Cane woven plaid shirt, size L (fits M)

$39.99

Up for sale here is a shirt from the Sugar Cane label, a part of the Toyo Enterprise family of labels that includes Buzz Rickson, Sun Surf, Tailor Tokyo, Indian Motorcycle, and several others. Sugar Cane themselves manufacture a lot of Mister Freedom’s collections and distribute them in Japan. Needless to say, their credentials are very strong on the vintage-inspired, workwear-influenced Japanese clothing industry.

So what we have here is a button down knit plaid shirt from their main line. Quality is strong throughout as you would expect. Material here is a knit cotton, where each color represents different colored thread. This isn’t a print like you find with some cheaper labels. You’ve essentially got a few shades of blue, red and white thread woven together in the plaid print that you see. This is very similar to the classic flannel shirt a number of labels have done (sugar cane included), although the cotton knit here makes this a bit lighter than your typical flannel. It’s actually a bit more versatile in my opinion, as you can easily layer up or down depending on the weather, while the traditional heavier flannel is exclusively intended for the cold weather.

Buttons are white cat’s eye style, and interior has contrasting red bobbin thread. Retail on these types of shirts is around $200 outside of Japan. Get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 16-16.5/large and fits slim, more like a standard medium in my opinion. I measure the chest at 20.5”, shoulders at 17.5”, length at 28” from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping via EMS from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
