Up for sale here is a rare piece from Visvim, their PFD jacket from the 2014 spring-summer collection. Visvim is well regarded for their crazy devotion to quality and developing unique fabrics. Their textiles are always custom and the detailing some of the best out there. Of course that kind of attention to detail does not come cheap, where Visvim pieces are easily some of the most expensive out there. They’re an expensive label and it can be frustratingly difficult to get some of their pieces (especially at a somewhat reasonable price), but there isn’t any disputing their quality.
Visvim have released a few iterations of their PFD jacket. It references classic military wear, but has characteristically been elevated. Exterior fabric for this version is a 50% cotton, 50% linen blend – nicely textured, indigo dyed, and washed to give it a worn-in vintage look. Interior is unlined but does have selvedge lines on both sides of the placket interiors. Vegetable ivory buttons are used throughout and custom brass snaps are used for all of the pockets. The drawstrings are hand twisted hemp with leather pulls on the ends. The main signature with the PFD is also the large collar that stows a hood, which can be unzipped if needed.
Like the best Visvim pieces, really no expense was spared in the fabric or design of this jacket. It’s one of those pieces that is totally unique without calling undue attention to itself, and will only get better with age. These were released in small quantities, with limited availability both in and outside of Japan. Japanese retail was about $1000, retail abroad was about $1500 if you could find it. Size is labeled a 2 and fits a medium well. Newer Visvim pieces tend to have a relaxed fit, but these somewhat earlier releases fit more standard. If you are a fan of the more straight-fitting Visvim this should work very well. I measure the chest at 20.5”, shoulders at 17.5”, length at 29” from the base of the neck and sleeves 25” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in used condition. There is some sun damage on the back of the right sleeve and the bottom right side which gives that portion a sort of bleached look. It is not extremely noticeable but at the side time is there. Aside from that there are no holes, tears or stains. Also note that the bag and tags are not included in this sale. Made in Japan.
