For sale here is a shirt from the Westride label, one of a good number of Japanese brands that are strongly influenced by vintage Americana. Where Westride is different is that they’re primarily a motorcycle label (the name is probably a good indication), a particular subset of the “American casual” family of brands, much in the same vein as Iron Heart, Buco and Black Sign, among others. Probably the closest peer for Westride is Iron Heart actually, where both labels are known for using very heavy fabrics and producing at an extremely high level of quality. Westride have a reasonably strong following in Japan, yet for some reason they appear to have almost no international distribution at the moment.
So what we have here is Westride’s take on the rayon plaid shirt. Rayon button downs are a vintage staple, evoking 1950s and early 60s era Americana. Of course Westride change things up a bit here. For one, the fabric is 90% rayon and 10% wool. Adding wool to this kind of rayon piece is actually pretty unusual, but it gives the fabric additional weight and texture. The weave of the fabric is very nice, where on the detailed pics you can see both the texture and the individual threads woven together. Westride is one of those labels that in no way compromises on quality as you can hopefully see.
Details are understated for the most part, although there are a few little things to note. Front uses vegetable ivory button closure, a bit bigger than your standard shirt buttons. There are also two side pockets on the shirt, where piece will in fact work well as a layered overshirt in addition to being a standard button down. There is also a vintage style open collar detail and flat hem added for good measure. Production runs with Westride are always small, and this shirt retailed at about $200 in Japan. This model is now sold out, but get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 38, fitting a standard medium well in my opinion. I measure the chest at 20.5”, shoulders at 17”, length at 28” from the base of the neck and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in used, generally good shape. There are two small abrasions on the front: one on the right front pocket and one just above it. Neither of these are actual holes, but worth noting in the interest of full disclosure. Otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
