Up for sale here is a sweater from the White Mountaineering label. White Mountaineering tends to run more toward the technical side of fashion, where as their name implies they often try to make functional clothes that also work outside of standard urban environments. The idea and execution is similar to what Nanamica or even the Arcteryx Veilance labels aim to do: creating functional clothing that both looks good and can perform well across a variety of situations.
The design here isn’t quite as technical as some of the other stuff you see from White Mountaineering, but there are definitely some interesting details here. Silhouette follows the classic crew neck pretty closely, but a few points set it apart from the standard sweater. Material is a nice fleeced cotton, the sort where the interior is nice and fluffy and provides a good layer of warmth. The main twist comes in the pattern, where there is a mix of black and navy blue here. Cuffs, neck and waistband are all in navy blue, and the rest of the sweater is in black except for a few blocks of navy on the front and back. However, the navy blocks of color are not just printed on, but they are woven into the pattern on the front and back of the sweater. This makes the pattern and construction of the sweater quite a bit more complicated than your more standard piece, keeping things very interesting and unique and also making for some eye catching details.
As is often the case with these Japanese labels, White Mountaineering is produced in pretty limited quantities, with very limited availability outside of Japan. Retail on their sweaters s is about $300 in Japan, and this will cost you quite a bit more to get them abroad.
Size is labeled a 1 and fits like a standard medium. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 17”, length at 27” from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” from the shoulder. The sweater comes in lightly used, good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
