For sale here is a jacket from the 45 rpm brand. 45 rpm is best known for their Japanese take on American workwear, often using indigo dyes and sparing no expense in quality or detailing on their clothing. They’re also known for being quite exclusive. Their pieces are only available in their own shops, of which there are only a handful outside of Japan. Retail prices are likewise very high and production runs are very small. If you see something you like, you typically have to jump on it because chances are it won’t be around for long.

This is a cardigan/light weight jacket done in a woven cotton. As usual with 45 rpm the quality is top notch here. These kinds of woven fabrics are done by 45 rpm on old school looms, giving them a dense gauge for one, as well as a more hand-done, textured feel to it compared to the cheaper alternatives. Fabrics and details are what 45 rpm is all about, and the best way to experience it is on close inspection really.

Silhouette here is called the “tyrolean” jacket, very loosely based on traditional Austrian outerwear. This is shown in the collar which has a sort of higher roll to it, almost like a shawl collar. A number of additional details are incorporated as well: cuffs, waist and pockets are reinforced in a complimentary black cotton trim, chest pocket has some additional stitching in yellow. Care information is stamped in the interior, featuring their most recent happy face logo and slogans. Rear has embroidered “R” logo in yellow, and buttons likewise have a subtle “R” logo etched on them.

45 rpm pieces are some of the best out there, with top notch quality and very well considered design. Retail was in the neighborhood of $600 outside of Japan, but get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 3 and a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 27” / 69cm and sleeves at 23” / 58cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, excellent with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
