Up for sale here is plaid jacket from 45 rpm’s Umii line. 45 rpm is perhaps best known for their indigo products, of which they’re one of the really early adopters. The label has been around quite a while now, producing with a unique mix of vintage workwear and traditional Japanese techniques. Their use of indigo in particular is almost unparalleled. Others may imitate, but few come as close as 45 rpm.
In this case we have a plaid jacket referencing vintage US ivy-league style. Ivy style is a pretty big thing in Japan and one of 45 rpm’s core influences. It is a sort of Japanese take on classic Americana, although the quality, fit and detailing are all elevated considerably. Material is a fairly light weight plaid cotton fabric. It is one of those high quality knits where you can see the individual threads woven together on close inspection. Front of the jacket has a cotton lining which gives it extra structure and a bit more weight. As such, I would consider this an ideal fall-spring-summer piece.
Some interesting details are included here as well. Front has an embroidered character. Collar is ribbed in cotton with a nicely contrasting button hole in red. Front zip has a large circular pull, and the zipper fabric is actually red on the right side and blue on the left. There are interior pockets for extra storage. Cuffs have buttons and there are additional buttons on the sides for adjusting the fit to your liking. The interior Umii logo tag uses blue thread to connect it, which is also visible from the rear. There is some additional blue thread in the same shade that is also visible on the rear. All of these very detailed little things are another point that set 45 rpm apart and put them on a different level.
Size is labeled a 2, fit is between a small and a medium in my opinion, like a loose small or a slim medium. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 19”, length at 25”, and sleeves at 23” from the shoulder. This jacket comes in very lightly worn, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains.
