Up for sale here is an over coat from Japan’s 45 rpm label. 45 rpm continually produce some really high quality pieces, using innovative fabrics and a high level of hand detailing. They are probably best known for their indigo products, although they produce a full range of clothing as well.
This jacket is very much in 45 rpm’s aesthetic, where they adopt a menswear staple and tweak most aspects of it. Silhouette is based on the classic over coat, but fit and materials are both updated quite a bit here. Fabric is 100% cotton, coming in a fairly light weight knit plaid design. There is a very nice texture to the fabric, where on close inspection you can see all of the individual fibers making up the knit. 45 rpm is not one to cut corners and their fabrics always take center stage.
Fit is somewhat relaxed here, where you can layer underneath to suit the climate. Front can be buttoned up to the top or with the top folded down like a more traditional over coat. Rear has a storm flap intended to help with moisture while adding some breathability. Buttons are all horn, with adjuster buttons on the cuffs. Interior pockets are lined in a lightweight cotton chambray. Neck tag is embroidered and indigo dyed for good measure.
As always with 45rpm, materials and design are given the utmost consideration here. These pieces were produced in very limited quantities and especially difficult to come by outside of Japan. Retail was about $700 in Japan alone, although you can get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2, fitting a medium well in this case. I measure the chest at 22” / 56cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 45cm, length at 38” / 98cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” / 63cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes lightly used, very good shape, with no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $34.
