For sale here is a pair of pants from Japanese label 45 rpm. 45 rpm is definitely a cult label, where they have been steadily producing some of the highest quality pieces out there, often with all kinds of little details incorporated, and specializing in indigo products. They have managed to expand beyond Japan, maintaining their own shops in France and the US, but they also do not command the same level of hype compared to some of the other prominent Japanese brands. Still, you can be sure you are getting a well designed, top quality product with just about any 45 rpm piece.

These pants come from 45 rpm’s Umii line – it is supposed to be a loosely naval-inspired collection but has really no discernable difference in terms of quality or design compared to other 45 rpm products. Design here is a straight leg chino, a hair on the slim side but easily the sort of thing that you can incorporate across a wide variety of looks. Fabric is a 95%, 5% polyurethane blend, giving the material a bit of stretch to it and ensuring a high level of comfort. Fabric is good for year-round wear, where it is neither too light nor too heavy, and has a really nice texture to it.

While the fabric is excellent, where 45 rpm excels is in their detailing. Waistband is lined on the interior in striped navy blue cotton. Pockets are in a solid navy. Label is embroidered, and their signature “R” logo is embroidered in gray near the rear right pocket. Hand detailing is incorporated around the pockets and pocket flaps. Even the zip pull on the fly has an “R” incorporated. 45 rpm is always produced in limited quantities and it can be hard to track down specific pieces once they are gone. Current iterations of pants currently retail at about $300 in Japan alone and are likely somewhere around $500 abroad. Get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 34 and fits more like a 32. I measure the waist at 32” / 42cm, inseam at 27.5” / 70cm, rise at 11” / 27.5cm, and leg opening at 7” / 18cm – this a somewhat tapered fit, where the silhouette tapers down from about the knees to the cuff. Pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
