Aton Edition-exclusive garment dyed suvin cotton t-shirt, size 4 (M)

$34.99

For sale here is a shirt from Japan’s Aton label. Aton is a part of the growing movement of Japanese labels offering seemingly minimalistic, typically relaxed silhouettes executed in some of the highest quality fabrics available. Other labels offering a similar aesthetic include Comoli, A. Presse, Aura Lee and Maatee & Sons among others. Aton themselves operate exactly one shop in Aoyama, Tokyo and can be pretty hard to track down.

With Aton fabrics take center stage. They really, really care about the fabrics they use and you can be sure any of their pieces will always utilize some kind of very interesting and highly complicated custom fabric. This shirt is 100% cotton, using extra long staple Suvin cotton, one of the highest grades of cotton available, handpicked in India and woven by specialists in Wakayama. Unlike a standard single jersey, this is a custom fabric for Aton that uses a double-knit structure to achieve a unique drape and a soft, voluminous feel. It also has a rich, nuanced color achieved through garment dying. As you can see on the additional neck tag, this particular model was exclusive to the Edition select shop in Japan, only available there and nowhere else. I believe the arm and hem chain stitching are a detail unique to this model. It is subtle but sets it apart from the pack on close inspection.

Aton is difficult enough to track down outside of Japan already but these models are especially rare. Retail was about $250 in Japan, mainly attributed to the quality of the fabric, but get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 4, equivalent to a medium for Aton, given a somewhat relaxed fit. I measure the chest at 22” / 56cm, shoulders at 22” / 56cm, and length at 27” / 68cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with just some minor wear and no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
