Dappers iron heart heavy striped cotton henley shirt, size 40 (M)

$34.99 Sold out

Up for sale here is a pretty rare piece from the Dappers label. Dappers is one of the family of “American casual” brands operating in Japan, strongly influenced by vintage Americana and producing some really interesting and unique things. I believe they got their start back in 2009 and have been producing steadily since. Given their smaller stature focusing primarily on the Japanese market, they have not yet made many inroads abroad. Still, like many similar brands they are well worth seeking out.

This is a heavy weight striped henley shirt. Dappers describes this shirt as a “henley neck rib tee special sewing model”. The special sewing model is a designation for Dappers’ higher quality pieces incorporating more involved sewing processes and vintage machinery. To be precise, Dappers notes that this shirt was constructed using a Union Special 36200 four needle flat-seam stitch with #40 cotton threading. Details include a bound collar and blind-stitched hem ensuring a quality build with no compromises. It is characterized by the unique tension and soft texture inherent in a loopwheeled jersey.

Fit is modeled after 1940s-1960s under shirts and as such has a somewhat slim fit with a fair amount of stretch to it. These pieces are produced in very limited quantities and only available at a small number of shops in Japan. Retail is about 15,000 yen but get it here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a 40 and fits a medium well. I measure the chest at 19” / 48cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm and length at 23” / 59cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
