Aura Lee is a somewhat newer Japanese label that seems to have captured the vanguard of fashion these days, along with a handful of other newer Japanese labels like A. Presse and Comoli. With Aura Lee they aim for highly comfortable design in very unique textiles. Designs are usually kept somewhat muted and deceptively simple, where the materials and details are intended to stand out.
This is a light tee shirt from Aura Lee’s spring-summer 2020 collection, called the “seamless crewneck half sleeve” shirt. It is seamless in the sense that there are no side seams. The is usually the hallmark of a tubular loopwheel production, where the lack of side seams helps the shirt to maintain its shape and is more robust since there are less seams that can rip or get damaged. As always with Aura Lee, they have opted for a super high quality fabric, this time 100% long staple cotton in a gray colorway. Silhouette is just a shade relaxed and the cut is simple yet closely considered. All details are exactly in their place and nothing extemporaneous is included here. It is high quality minimalism at work, the sort of thing Jil Sander and Helmut Lang made their reputations on.
Size is labeled a 4 and fits a medium well. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 18” / 45cm, and length at 27” / 69cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
