Up for sale here is a sweater from the Bedwin & the Heartbreakers label, one of the perhaps better known streetwear labels operating in Japan at the moment, although they don’t seem to have a huge level of distribution outside of Japan. That’s a bit unfortunate, as Bedwin are always ones to keep things interesting with subtle tweaks to otherwise classic design and with very high standards of quality. They remind me a bit of the Nonnative label in that way, although Bedwin arguably tend to incorporate more unique little details than Nonnative.
So in this case we have a pretty unique piece, done entirely in a burgundy Scottish wool. This definitely references more traditional British (more specifically Scottish) knits, like Inverallan or Jameson for example. The Scottish knitting tradition goes very far back, where they definitely had the need for insulating, functional garments that can help keep the wind and rain out. One of the unique properties of Scottish wool in my experience is that they’re much better at providing insulation compared to other types of wool. I don’t know what it is exactly, but it probably has something to do with the sheep used and the kinds of hair they grow, but Scottish wool is seriously one of the warmest out there, often justifying the premium pricing.
Bedwin are definitely able to take advantage of the high quality wool, and opt to keep things mostly traditional here. The big exception, perhaps, is the unique colorway. You probably won’t find too many traditional Scottish wools in this kind of a red. Other more subtle details include a custom “handmade in Scotland” tag at the bottom, crew neck, and Bedwin tags inside. Interior also has a tag noting that Wilma made this particular sweater.
These kinds of special pieces are always produced in very limited quantities and pretty much impossible to track down outside of Japan. Retail was about $300 in Japan, but get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2, equivalent to a medium for Bedwin. I measure the chest at 19” / 48cm although there is a fair amount of stretch, shoulders at 17” / 43cm, length at 25” / 63cm and sleeves at 23” / 58cm from the shoulder. The sweater comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Scotland.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
