Up for sale here is a shirt from the Bedwin & the Heartbreakers label, one of the perhaps better known streetwear labels operating in Japan at the moment, although they don’t seem to have a huge level of distribution outside of Japan. That’s a bit unfortunate, as Bedwin are always ones to keep things interesting with subtle tweaks to otherwise classic design and with very high standards of quality. They remind me a bit of the Nonnative label in that way, although Bedwin arguably tend to incorporate more unique little details than Nonnative.
So in this case we have a standard weight knit cotton button down shirt, the kind of timeless piece that you can wear pretty much anywhere, any time, and will go with basically everything. Design seems to be pretty classic, although there are a number of nice little details. The most obvious twist here is the incorporation of a plaid fabric, as well as a solid blue cotton. The rear, sleeves and right side of the front are all the solid blue fabric, while the left side, shoulder lining fabric and cuff lining fabric are in a plaid pattern. This makes for a nice and unique contrast. There are a number of smaller details as well, including a red tag on the left side of the shirt, a label tag on the back side of the collar, another tag on the left side of the body, button holes done in contrasting blue stitching, and cat’s eye buttons used throughout.
There are additional tags on the interior, including one saying “sweet jane”. Bedwin sometimes add these tags that reference different songs inspiring the collection. This one is a nod to the Velvet Underground, where I would imagine the clothing is meant to evoke 1960s-era Velvet underground style. Needless to say, these pieces are not easy to come by at all, and this shirt stands above a lot of similar pieces I have encountered in terms of quality and design.
Size is labeled a 3 and fits a standard medium. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 17”, length at 28” in front and 30” in back, both from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 23.5” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
