Engineered Garments, designed by Daiki Suzuki and under the umbrella of Japanese company Nepenthes, manufactures their products in the United States, and almost entirely in New York City. They aim to utilize some of the high quality materials and services available in the city and keep their factories going. One of their other main ideals is to update classic workwear pieces with a more modern approach. That’s often manifested in high quality materials, and sometimes more fashion-forward designs as well.
Here we have a hat from EG. Exterior is 100% cotton in a black corduroy fabric. Interior is also lined in a 51% polyester, 49% cotton material. Silhouette references the classic bucket hat, although as usual EG incorporate some unique details. For one, while the shape references the bucket hat, it is actually somewhat asymmetrical and a bit larger than a standard bucket hat. It is meant to be worn loose on the top and bunch up. EG have also added a number of additional stitching lines across the brim of the hat, on both the interior and exterior, giving it additional shape and making for a nice look. Engineered Garments enjoys pretty decent international distribution, although these accessories are comparatively harder to come by and this model is no longer in production.
The hat is labeled a medium and should work well for just about everybody. I measure the height at 8” / 20cm and width at 12” / 60cm. The hat comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in the USA.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $20 if purchased by itself. If purchased with another item shipping on the hat is free.
